| The base of the exped is at Gratangen, in North Norway (Troms) and has a great heritage for fishing and outdoor activities. The fjord here is Gratangsfjord and stretches out for 15 miles. The North Norwegian Vessel Preservation Centre and Boat Museum are here, as well as a few shops. The nearest main centre is Narvik. The Lofoten Islands are part of the Nordland region of Norway and will form the main area of interest for the coastal sailing leg (18 - 30 July). The capital is Bodø and is to the north of the Artic Circle. The Gulf Stream keeps the islands warm.
