The diving area is quite special in that there are hundreds of WWII wrecks to explore - many of which have never been dived - or even located! We were lucky in having a wreck just around the corner from the base in the fjord (Drooning Maud) which provided a good work up dive and a good place for an evening dive in the never-ending daylight. Our local expert Åage Danielsen from Harstad gave us unique information on the locations and took time off to come and show around. With the use of the rib from the base we were able to visit many dive sites and carry out wreck dives, drift dives and even some fishing! The cadets who came with us managed to work on and achieve their Sports Diver & Dive Leader certificates. It may lack the warm waters further south but the thrill of diving on historic wrecks away from the tourist traps and even being the first to locate and dive on a German Junkers bomber, for example, has more of the adventurous training angle that we are always looking for. Åage is looking to set up a commercial diving club here and I think this will prove quite an attraction. There are various reports on our diving - esp the 18th & 19th Jul - see the Faroes98 web site activities.
